ST BEGHIANS’ WEEKEND 2023
|
Founders’ Day began in hot weather on Friday, 16th June with the school hosting a chapel service (at which George Robson (FN 57-64) played the organ) followed by a barbeque lunch then Sports Day and prize-giving and concluding with cream teas on the Terrace.
The fine weather continued on OSB Day itself on the Saturday with a Committee Meeting and AGM in the Management Centre, at which the members were addressed by the school’s Headmaster, Robin Silk. The Minutes can be read in our next issue of the Bulletin.
At the AGM, the newly constituted 200 Club draw took place with a 1st Prize of £200. All readers are encouraged to join this worthwhile club, whose profits support the school in various projects. Details of membership can be found elsewhere in the Bulletin (or here).

The OSB chapel service followed, attended by students of the school, led by the Rev Becky Gibbs with a sermon delivered by Mark Spencer Ellis (SH 62-66). There were readings by the Society’s President and a student of the school. Following lunch in the Foundation, many OSBs were conducted on a walk around the Priory and its environs by former master, Chris Robson
(M 68-04). An account of this tour can be read here.

During the afternoon a Fives’ tournament took place with staff, students, and OSBs, led by John Wilkinson (FS 68-73) and Laurence Gribble (SH 02-09/Current Staff). Again, a report of the tournament can be read here. Formal arrangements were then concluded with a very enjoyable and relaxing free barbeque, kindly provided by the school. Socialising continued until about 9 pm when the first drops of rain were felt after two days of glorious weather.

Over the weekend there was a display of school art, which included many pieces created by pupils before the school’s closure in 2015, and OSBs from that era are encouraged to collect any pieces of theirs which may be in this display.
